EZRA LIPP'S MAGIC IN THE OTHER, SATURDAY DECEMBER 13 @8PM, $15

“A trio actively seeking enlightenment and passion for whatever life throws at us. Bold stuff but  the band intertwines with such obvious delight and get across their unique thing with such abundant charm and off-handed skill that the gathering dancers only realize they’ve been simmering in a philosophical hot tub after they’re toasty & copacetic.” - Jam Base

Magic In The Other is a Sacramento-based avant-rock trio crafting music that’s as infectiously danceable as it is profoundly introspective. Led by veteran drummer, vocalist, and songwriter Ezra Lipp (ALO, Phil Lesh & Friends), the band merges intricate lyricism—rooted in vulnerability and human connection—with fearless musical creativity. Joined by the fiery and imaginative guitarist Daniel “Dellow” Roholt and the dynamic bassist Alex Reiff, MITO delivers a sound that defies categorization, blending soaring jazz lines, African-inspired rhythms, soul-infused melodies, and the raw adventurousness of rock n’ roll.

Emerging in 2017 as an outlet for Lipp’s songwriting and fearless band-leading, MITO combined a love for improvisational fluidity with a focus on stellar songcraft. The original trio earned accolades for their dynamic live shows and the thoughtful, deeply human nature of their music showcased in their two production rich releases, 2018’s What We Know Is Possible  2019’s As It Starts To Fade. After a hiatus beginning in 2020 due to geographical shifts in the band, the band was reborn in 2024 with a fresh lineup and renewed creative energy, building on their signature sound while exploring new artistic horizons.

Anchored by Lipp’s achingly truthful lyrics, which explore the depths of the human condition with clarity and emotion, MITO’s music stretches audiences, engaging both the heart and the mind. Whether through melodic anthems or spontaneous improvisations,  and always plenty of humor and lightness, Magic In The Other continues to push the boundaries of their sound, creating music that feels simultaneously fresh and timeless.

MITO is currently at work recording their 3rd LP anticipated in early 2026.
