Smoke Chaser is an original rock band from Santa Cruz that creates lush, catchy psych-pop soundscapes.  This newly formed collaboration features renowned Monterey singer Malinda DeRouen, grandniece of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s Charlie Gabriel. Smoke Chaser’s debut single “Highway One” (May 1, 2022) is a celebration of “sex, Big Sur and Henry Miller.” A debut LP album, Where There’s Smoke, is slated for release in December 2022.   

Formed in 2003, The Suborbitals is an original low-rock band that features the baritone sax of Ben Herod and an incomparable rhythm section. “It's a unique sound...and dark. It’s really wonderful,” said Sleepy John Sandidge of KPIG. Popdust called The Suborbitals “wickedly tight burlesque strip club music, the kind you'd find at a gentleman's club on the wrong side of the tracks, rife with deep tones from the sax and theatrical vocals.” The SubOs released two albums, Blackout Rolling (2006) and Hey Oblivion (2018). No Depression called the latter “quite unlike anything else you’ll in modern popular music today.”
